There were once two Cub Packs (Black and Tawny) that met concurrently every Wednesday evening during term time. We now only run Black Pack which meets between 6.30pm and 8.00pm each Wednesday evening. There are occasions where a pack meeting finishes slightly later, but we aim to finish the sessions by the stated time.

Boys are able to join after they have turned eight (Year 3 or Year 4). An application form is sent out to parents in the February half term of Year 2. There is no need to contact the Group prior to that date. Once we have received the applications, we will endeavour to place as many boys as possible as they reach their eighth birthday.

Cubs work towards their badges during the weekly meetings. There are occasional District weekend training and games activities as well as an annual Junior Camp. These are optional but always popular. For badge requirements, see here

All leaders are either current parents at the school, ex-parents or ex-Hall boys. Parents are required to help at a Pack meeting once a term. The Packs are ‘closed’ in the sense that membership is only open to boys studying at the school.

At 10 years of age, a boy’s passage through the Cubs will entitle him to an automatic entry into the Scout Troop.

Current term’s programme


Boys are invested into the Pack a few weeks after they have joined. This is an important occasion which parents are invited to attend. There are games and activities before the investiture ceremony in which they will be able to participate.


At the investiture, a new Cub is expected to recite the Cub Scout Law: “Cub Scouts always do their best, think of others before themselves and do a good turn every day.”

Your son will need his full uniform, which comprises the official Cub Scout sweatshirt and activity trousers. These can be obtained from John Lewis or by mail order through Scout Shops. We provide the scarf which has to be made especially in approved colours plus the woven Maltese cross.  It must be looked after and should last him until he leaves the Scout Troop at 13. Please label the entire uniform. A certificate of joining-in, a woggle (his Six colour) and a set of badges are also presented at the investiture.

Lost Scarves and woggles: replacement scarves cost £12.50 (cash or cheque to ‘8th Hampstead Scout Group’) and replacement woggles cost 30p. Please contact one of the leaders of your Pack. Contact details of the leaders are sent to parents at the beginning of the term.
